FPA NZ Leading the Charge in Fertiliser Efficiency

FPA NZ scooped top honours at the 2013 Green Ribbon Awards, held in the Beehive this month. The innovative New Zealand business won the ‘Green Economy” category for their development of world-leading fertiliser spreading technology (FPA) designed to improve fertiliser use efficiency.

This enhancement in spreading technology addresses one of our most significant environmental concerns – pressure on our land and water sources from farming, a vital industry for the New Zealand economy. This innovation will lead to better economic performance, add value to our export industry and contribute to a low carbon economy.

FPA NZ Director Brett Emeny, said “Enabling farmers to produce more grass of higher quality for better returns has been our vision these past 20 years of development, it’s wonderful to see this achievement recognised at the Green Ribbon Awards. FPA technology focuses on getting fertiliser nutrient more efficiently to the plants resulting in more growth per kg of nutrient applied”. The technology that FPA NZ have developed is an enhancement to the existing fertiliser spreading industry whereby farmers achieve a much greater growth response to the fertiliser being applied.

This method of application captures fertiliser nutrient that would be lost through granulated fertiliser application and redirects that nutrient to the plants so they can use it in extra grass production. FPA is scientifically proven to reduce nitrate leaching by 50% and lower emissions by 14%. In addition to these environmental benefits the technology achieves a 90% increase in dry matter production and a 38% increase in water use efficiency in plants.

FPA NZ is dedicated to educating and promoting the environmental and economical benefits of their technology throughout New Zealand. They have also initiated a world first on-farm monitoring programme so that farmers and consultants can see the results for themselves.

FPA is available in groundspread and aerial technology. For more information about FPA, visit their website www.fpanz.com.
